J Baker’s Bistro Modorne is a bit of a mouthful, but rest assured, Jeff Baker's solo venture (he was at Michelin-starred Pool Court for 10 years) focuses on simple, local ingredients. The grazing menu available by day and early evening, might include Scarborough woof (dog fish) with pea shoots and real mayo, macaroni with ox-tail and young spinach, and sour cherry sorbet and warm cinnamon doughnuts. A fixed-price a la carte menu is offered after 7pm. The ground-floor restaurant is all pale woods and tranquil creams and browns, with a bar and privet dining room upstairs.
